A retired U.S. Air Force officer will discuss his more than 200 combat missions during the Vietnam War in a speech at the March Field Air Museum near Riverside.

Lt. Col. Dan  Petkunas, an F-4 Phantom weapons systems officer, will speak Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m.

The speech is the latest installment of the Inland Empire Aviation Roundtable, which is sponsored by the museum. The monthly sessions are open to the public. Museum admission is required to attend.

Petkunas, who has three Distinguished Flying Crosses and 18 air medals, will talk about missions such as providing air support for Army troops in South Vietnam and his ejection from a crippled fighter over North Vietnam, a museum news release states.

Originally from Chicago, Petkunas became a weapons systems officer on the F-4 Phantom at George Air Force Base before deploying to Vietnam in 1972, the release states. He now lives in Valencia.

The museum near Riverside, at 22550 Van Buren Blvd., is adjacent to March Air Reserve Base at the 215 Freeway.
