More unlicensed firearms recovered, Cape Town

Our pursuits to reduce incidences of violent crime in our communities, have led to the arrests of multiple suspects in cases related to the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Members attached to Grassy Park SAPS arrested a 20 year old male and an 18 year old female on 11 September 2019, at about 23:20 while conducting crime prevention duties in the Lotus River area.

They pulled over a vehicle, with both suspects inside, in Sterretjie Street, Eagle Park and discovered an unlicensed black Taurus revolver with ammunition. Both suspects are expected to appear in Wynberg Magistrate Court once they have been charged.

In a separate instance, Manenberg SAPS members arrested a male suspect at about 18:40 in Sabie Road next to Joyce Court for possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition. Members were conducting their normal duties when they stopped to search a group of men standing nearby and discovered an unlicensed OSS revolver with ammunition in the possession of the suspect. He is expected to make a court appearance once charged.

In another separate incident, Philippi SAPS members arrested a 26 year old male at about 12:30 in Hanover Park for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Members were busy with crime prevention operations in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies when they gave chase to the suspect who attempted to evade his arrest when he saw them driving in his direction in Athwood Road, Hanover Park and .

Members apprehended the suspect and seized a .38 Taurus revolver with ammunition. Once charged, the suspect is expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 13 September 2019.
