Dadaab Movement and Intentions Monitoring: Hagadera Refugee Camp - Garissa County, Kenya (November 2017)

Attachments

Summary

With deteriorating drought conditions in Somalia and reduced humanitarian funding to Dadaab over the past years, there is a need to strengthen the information of the humanitarian needs, intentions and movement of the population in order to enable informed programme planning by partners working on the Somali refugee response in Kenya.

Since May 2017, REACH has worked with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Refugee Consortium of Kenya on developing tools and methodologies for data collection in Dadaab refugee camps, and at key bordercrossing points between Kenya and Somalia. This factsheet provides an overview of a sampled camp level assessment with the objective to facilitate enhanced data availability on cross-border movement, future return intentions and access to assistance and information in the camps amongst Somali refugees.

Primary data was collected through household surveys, key informant interviews and facility mapping from 17 to 24 November 2017. Households were randomly sampled to a 95% confidence level and 10% margin of error. Findings are representative at the camp level. Population figures were provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). A total of 99 households and 15 key informants were interviewed in Hagadera.
