MUMBAI: The
Maharashtra Legislative Council on Wednesday revoked the suspension of legislator
Prashant Paricharak. He was suspended for 1.5 years last year for allegedly making derogatory remarks about army wives.
This was announced by state revenue minister Chandrakant Patil. The state had formed a probe committee to investigate the episode. It concluded that since Paricharak had apologised for the incident, his punishment had been deemed to be enough.
Paricharak, a legislator from Solapur, had joked during an election campaign last year that soldiers stationed at the border distribute sweets when their babies are born although they haven’t come home in a year, indirectly alleging their wives are unfaithful.
