Westover Christian Academy students pack 10,000 meals for kids in Haiti

Students packed the meals Friday

DANVILLE, Va. – Ten-thousand meals are ready to be delivered to kids in Haiti thanks to some kids in Southside.

On Friday, students at Westover Christian Academy in Danville packed up the dry ingredients for the meals.

The school spent the past month working with a company to raise money for the school and for the meals.

The school raised about $85,000. The goal was $130,000, but school administrator John Cline said he's not complaining.

"It speaks volumes (about Danville). Danville's small, and so everybody's asked to give everything and they just keep giving; we keep giving. So I think it's fantastic," Cline said.

WCA 11th-grader Christian Barrington said he learned a lot during the fundraiser.

"The whole time, you have the focus of Haiti in mind and you get to know that you're helping people. It's such a great cause," Barrington said. "I've never really seen or known of how big a tragedy the place really is."

The meals will be picked up on Nov. 20 to be shipped to Haiti.
