The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum at Stirling Castle is offering a paid learning placement for someone to get their foot in the door to the heritage sector.

An entry-level placement has been opened to non-graduates with an interest in museums.

The one-year programme starting in September is funded by the National Lottery ‘Skills for the Future’ programme and managed by Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS).

Learners will complete an accredited vocational programme designed to offer a new entry route into museums work.

The programme aims to increase diversity and bring new skills to the sector by bypassing the traditional requirement for academic qualifications and volunteering experience.

The successful candidates will be placed in The Argylls Museum in the historic surroundings of Stirling Castle, working alongside museum professionals and learning a range of skills including digitising collections, learning and engagement and volunteer management.

The deadline for applications is 9am on Wednesday, May 30. To apply visit: https://museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk .

Rob Layden, Chief Executive of the Argylls’ Museum said: “These are exciting times for one of Scotland’s best loved military museums, as we head into a £4m transformation programme intended to make us one of the best military museums in the UK.

“Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Museums Galleries Scotland and by our public Thin Red Line Appeal under the patronage of HRH Prince William, The Earl of Strathearn, the Museum is looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for preserving and presenting our unparalleled collection of militaria, art and artefacts.

“Regardless of background, age, gender or formal qualification, we are looking for someone who will share our enthusiasm and can help us find fresh and exciting ways to tell the story of this great Scottish regiment and the communities that nurtured its fighting men.”
