American Legion Post 1 in Laconia held a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Saturday evening. About 40 people attended. The flag-burning ceremony respectfully retired old, worn or damaged American flags. Before the ceremony, members of the American Legion performed a gun salute, then Chaplain William Davies led the group in a prayer. About 100 flags were burned in the ceremony. People can bring old flags to American Legion Post 1 or VFW Laconia Post 1670 in Laconia for proper retirement. The Belmont Police Department is also trading worn out flags for new replacements, until their supply runs out.
