SHREVEPORT, La. - The year 2026 marks an extraordinary milestone — America’s 250th birthday. And while the world is full of incredible destinations, there’s no better place to celebrate this momentous occasion than in the very cities where our nation was born.

KTBS 3 has always been a proud supporter of God and Country through our Freedom Fest Series, and our first two trips of 2026 are designed to honor that tradition with unforgettable experiences rich in history, patriotism, and inspiration.

Philadelphia

Journey #1: “Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary” with Jan Elkins

Follow in the footsteps of America’s founding moments with Jan Elkins as your guide. This patriotic journey begins in Boston, the cradle of the American Revolution. From there, you’ll travel to New York City, where the echoes of liberty resound through landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Freedom Tower. You’ll also see West Point, where cadets train to protect the freedom we celebrate.

Next, experience the heart of American independence in Philadelphia, home to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. This stop offers a powerful glimpse into the birth of our nation. Then take a tour of Mount Vernon, the home of our first president, George Washington.

The grand finale takes place in Washington, D.C., where the nation’s capital will be alive with the spirit of celebration. Parades, concerts, and historic reenactments will make this a once-in-a-lifetime event. Jan’s warm storytelling and passion for our country will bring every moment to life.

Greenbriar Resort

Journey #2: “American Heritage featuring The Greenbrier Resort” with Rick Rowe

If your heart beats for American history, Rick Rowe’s trip is tailor-made for you. This adventure begins in Washington, D.C., amid the nation’s official birthday festivities. From there, you’ll head to the elegant Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia — home of the once-secret Congressional bunker.

Then, step into the legacy of Thomas Jefferson at Monticello, before traveling back in time to Colonial Williamsburg, where cobblestone streets and costumed interpreters immerse you in the life of 18th-century America. Rick’s deep appreciation for our nation’s roots will guide you through each historic and meaningful stop.

Two routes, one patriotic purpose

Whether you choose Jan’s vibrant journey from Boston to D.C. via Philadelphia or Rick’s deeper dive into Virginia’s historic heartland, one thing is certain: these are not just trips —they are tributes. The hardest decision will be choosing which path to take.
