German special forces hunt for gunman who shot two dead near Frankfurt

A massive manhunt is currently underway in Germany for a gunman suspected to be on the loose following a double murder yesterday.


German police in a spa town north of Frankfurt have intensified their search for a suspect believed to be at large after two individuals were fatally shot on Saturday. The Hesse region police reported that the victims were killed in a residential area of Bad Nauheim, approximately 22 miles north of Frankfurt.


The motive behind this horrific attack remains unknown, and the identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed by investigators.

The German news agency DPA revealed that a police spokesperson has indicated evidence suggesting a single perpetrator, but the possibility of additional culprits cannot be dismissed.


As per Hessenschau, a regional publication affiliated with a public broadcaster, a significant police force was mobilised post the Saturday shootings. Local residents reported the presence of special forces, emergency vehicles, and a police helicopter at the scene, reports the Mirror.

Giessen city police stated that a "A big force deployment" comprising uniformed, plain clothes and special forces officers, supported by a helicopter, has been dispatched to locate the offender or offenders.

Police reassured the public stating, "The current understanding is that there is no danger for inhabitants or other people," Bad Nauheim, located 15 miles north of Frankfurt, is home to around 33,000 residents.

It's renowned as the place where Elvis Presley served in the US military from 1958 to 1960 and where he met his future wife, Priscilla Presley.
