President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has welcomed the election of Brice Nguema as Gabon’s new president.
Nguema, who led a coup in Gabon in August 2023, won Saturday’s presidential election in the country with more than 90% of votes cast.
“This milestone marks a new chapter of hope and progress for the people of Gabon. Namibia looks forward to continued collaboration and strengthening the longstanding bonds between our two nations, especially in advancing economic and trade relations,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
The election in Gabon was the country’s first presidential vote since the near-six-decade-long Bongo dynasty was overthrown by Nguema’s military coup.
“We wish president-elect Nguema success in his leadership journey and continued good health as he steers Gabon towards a brighter future,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said in a statement.
