Bestselling author David Baldacci will be guest speaker and sign copies of his new book “Strangers in Time” — focusing on a bookshop owner and two teenagers affected by World War II — at the Sussex County Libraries’ Beachside Book Festival on Saturday, April 26, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

Tickets cost $35 — with $5 from each being donated to Sussex County libraries — and include an autographed copy of “Strangers in Time.”

David Baldacci's 'Strangers in Time' will be signed by the author at the upcoming event in Rehoboth Beach.

Baldacci, 64 and a native of Richmond, will speak at 5 p.m. and meet guests afterward. To buy tickets, see the Facebook page Sussex County Libraries’ Beachside Book Festival.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, there will be a book festival, free and open to the public, at the Convention Center, Milton Library Director Lisa Petrecca said.

“Every year we sponsor a countywide event through the libraries. Last year, we had a children’s book festival in Georgetown sponsored by the Sussex County Libraries, and this year we are having a book festival. We are inviting local authors. There are some Sussex County authors coming and some Maryland authors coming to do book talks, and local vendors will be selling book art and library-related earrings and jewelry and crafts,” she said, adding that 25 authors and several vendors will be there, including Browseabout Books bookstore in Rehoboth Beach.

In his biography, Baldacci — known for suspense and legal thrillers — stated he started writing when he was a boy, after his mother gave him a lined notebook. Later, he thanked her for igniting his career, but she said she gave it to him to keep him quiet.

His first novel, “Absolute Power,” was written in 1996 and made into a movie starring Clint Eastwood. Baldacci has published 50 novels, and all of them have been national and international bestsellers. They are published in more than 45 languages and 80 countries, and 150 million copies have been sold worldwide. He has also published seven novels for young readers.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He practiced law in Washington, D.C.

Baldacci and his wife, Michelle, have two children.
