SPOKANE, Wash. – This week, a group of Inland Northwest veterans will embark on an Honor Flight from Spokane International Airport to Washington, D.C.
The flight will transport 85 Vietnam War veterans, seven Korean War veterans, and two World War II veterans. These heroes will visit memorials dedicated to honoring their service. The departure ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Alaska Airlines baggage claim before their 9:00 a.m. flight.
The public is encouraged to join both the send-off and the welcoming ceremony when the veterans return to Spokane on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Inland Northwest Honor Flight, a regional hub of the Honor Flight Network, has been dedicated to transporting veterans to Washington, D.C., since its founding in May 2009. The organization prioritizes veterans from earlier conflicts and those with terminal illnesses.
The Honor Flight program is open to veterans who served during recognized periods of conflict, including the Korean War from June 25, 1950, to January 31, 1955, and the Vietnam War from February 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975.
Guardians, who assist the veterans, are selected based on several criteria and must attend mandatory training sessions. Family members of veterans have priority to be guardians, and the current guardian fee is $950.00, covering all expenses.
For more information or to apply as a veteran or guardian, visit the Inland Northwest Honor Flight website or contact them at 509-624-0222.
