Following recent reports of the kidnapping and deaths of several Chinese nationals, the Philippine National Police (PNP) immediately called a Friday meeting with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).
Led by PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil, the meeting covered the concerns of the Filipino-Chinese community regarding their safety, especially after the said incidents that have caused fear among businessmen as well as the general public.
“We know the gravity and importance of these cases. The entire PNP force is committed to resolving this immediately and restoring public confidence in our peace and order,” Marbil said, adding that the police are doing everything possible to quickly identify and apprehend those responsible for the crimes.
The PNP and FFCCCII have since agreed to develop a program for enhanced coordination and early detection of potential threats. This includes stronger coordination with local police forces, increased surveillance in business hubs, and providing safety briefings to member companies and communities.
“We are deeply concerned and will not stop until we get justice for the victims. All investigative resources are activated and all the capabilities of the PNP will be used to prevent such incidents from happening again,” Marbil said.
The PNP also allayed fears about the alleged lack of relevant laws in place and its negative impact on the Philippines’ image in the international community, particularly among foreign investors and visitors.
“We call for unity and calm amidst the situation. These incidents do not reflect the entirety of our country. Our true reflection is our determination to enforce the law and protect all people, Filipinos and foreigners, who live and invest in the Philippines,” Marbil said.
