‘He Is A Canadian National’: Pakistan Distances Itself From 26/11 Plotter Tahawwur Rana

Tahawwur Rana is a Pakistani national who also has Canadian citizenship and was very close to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Pakistan Army and ISI.

The Pakistan foreign office on Thursday quickly distanced itself from 26/11 Mumbai attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana and said Rana is a Canadian citizen.

“Tahawwur Rana has not renewed his Pakistani documents in the last two decades. His Canadian nationality is very clear," the Pakistan foreign office said in a statement.

    Rana has been extradited from the US, he was being held there since his arrest in October 2009 along with David Coleman Headley, the co-conspirator, who is being held in a separate case.

    Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian businessman, is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in the 2008 attacks that killed 166 people, including security personnel and foreigners. He is accused of facilitating the coordinated strikes on India’s financial hub by conducting reconnaissance missions and providing support to David Coleman Headley.

The attacks, orchestrated from Pakistan, sent shockwaves around the world. Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving gunman, was tried and executed in India.
