Ireland's Defence Forces are recruiting across the three services - as the Government plans to greatly increase defence spending in an increasingly uncertain world.

And tonight, anybody interested in a career in the Defence Forces can get all the information they need at a special careers event in Collins Barracks between 6pm and 9pm.

The event will feature serving men and women from the various Branches and specialised units of Ireland's forces who will be able to outline career paths, opportunities and more.

There are a variety of opportunities for prospective recruits, including cadetships and in technical and expert areas including transport engineering, medical and trades such as electronic technicians and naval artificers. For all of the details on those, you can go to the Defence Forces recruitment portal here.

The Government has recently confirmed plans to significantly increase spending on defence for Ireland, this will mean more opportunities for new recruits, greater spending on facilities and 'kit' at bases like Haulbowline in Cork Harbour and an expanded Air Corps with the prospect of fast jets and more long range surveillance aircraft to cover Ireland's seaboard and international waters.

There is also likely to be a major review of pay and benefits - you can get the current rates available for all ranks plus recruits here.
