COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A man sustained critical injuries in a high-speed rollover accident in Colleton County on Saturday evening, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
The incident occurred on Red Root Road, south of Bethel Road around 7:36 p.m. when a southbound Mazda veered into the northbound ditch, flipping over five times before coming to rest upright on the edge of the roadway.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and found approximately 50 feet away in the roadway, officials said. Bystanders provided aid following the accident.

Fire-Rescue units treated the man at the scene for multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury. Officials said a medical helicopter was called, and CARE Flight responded and Fire-Rescue Medic 18 transported the man emergently to the school, where he was transferred to the flight crew and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, and sheriff's deputies assisted with traffic control.
