Dublin’s key workers should get paid a special allowance because of the high costs of living and working in the capital compared to any other part of the country, according to businessman Paschal Taggart.

Police officers in the City of London are to be paid a special £6,588 (€7,877) “London allowance” from next week and the veteran businessman believes that Dublin-based gardaí – and other frontline workers such as teachers and nurses – are in crisis due to the cost of living in the capital and deserve similar payments.
