Kansas freshman forward Flory Bidunga has informed the staff he intends to enter the transfer portal, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Saturday.
Bidunga is originally from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, but spent his high school career in Kokomo, Indiana, where he was named Indiana Mr. Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American in 2024.
The Congolese forward appeared in all 34 games for the Jayhawks, starting in six and averaging 16.3 minutes per game. Bidunga averaged 5.9 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game during his freshman campaign.
He quickly became a favorite amongst Kansas fans due to his incredible athleticism and shot-blocking ability. Bidunga was the youngest player in Kansas’ rotation and one of just two freshmen on scholarship.
Bidunga showed glimpses of promise throughout the season, particularly in Orlando in Kansas’ 99-48 win against UCF when he followed a block with a coast-to-coast dunk to help lead the Jayhawks to victory in January.
Flory Bidunga recorded a season-high 19 points in 36 minutes in Kansas’ heartbreaking double overtime loss against Houston on Jan. 25. Bidunga put up double figures in four games this season, including 16 on Feb. 22 in a win against Oklahoma State.
During his high school recruitment process, he visited Butler, Duke and Auburn before committing to Kansas. Auburn was believed to be the leader in his recruitment before he announced he was headed to Lawrence in August 2023.
With the announcement of Bidunga’s departure, Kansas now has eight scholarship players on the roster, with seven set to depart.
The updated list of departures: Hunter Dickinson, Dajuan Harris Jr., KJ Adams, Zeke Mayo, Shakeel Moore, Zach Clemence and Flory Bidunga.
