Kothagudem: As many as five Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire between the naxals and security personnel on the borders of Bijapur-Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
Security personnel have recovered a large amount of weapons such as INSAS, .303 and .315 rifles from the incident site. The exchange of fire has been ongoing and the number of casualties is expected to increase.
This was the second encounter within a fortnight in the area as 26 Maoists were killed in an encounter on the borders of Bijapur and Dantewada districts Gangaloor police station limits in the State on March 20. Security forces have recovered a large number of AK-47 rifles and semi-automatic weapons.
In another anti-naxal operation on the same day by a joint party of DRG and STF personnel on the borders of Kanker-Narayanpur districts four Naxalites were killed.
