The newly minted heavyweight title winner then paid tribute to US President Donald Trump – who was in the audience with Doge head Elon Musk and US representative Jim Jordan, a college wrestling champion himself – by saluting him from the mat before going up to the head of state for a handshake and a hug with the American flag on his back.

“[Trump] said he was very proud of me,” Hendrickson, 24, later told ESPN, adding, “He came here to support his troops, I put on a show for him, I wanted that national title.” The interaction evidently left him pumped, as he boasted in a press conference afterwards. “Commander-in-chief right there baby. I was really excited to have him here,” he said, per The New York Post.
