Timothy Paul Dennis
POPHAM BEACH – Dr. Timothy Paul Dennis, “Tim”, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home in Popham Beach. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born March 14, 1943, the only son of Peter and Patricia (Roberts) Dennis of Pine Point.
Tim’s early education started in a one-room schoolhouse in Pine Point alongside his sisters before attending high school at Maryknoll Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa. After graduating, he continued his education at Ricker College in Houlton, and at UCLA in California. Tim served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Following his military service, he earned his undergraduate degree from University of Maine (UMO) and his Doctor of Chiropractic from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Ill.
A dedicated professional Tim served as past president of the Maine Chiropractic Association and was appointed by the governor to the Board of Examiners for the State of Maine. He was the first chiropractic physician in the nation to work within the Veterans Administration (VA) system, an initiative ordered by President George H. W. Bush.
Tim’s passion for chiropractic care extended beyond his private practice of nearly 50 years in Bath, where he formed lifelong bonds with his patients. In addition to his private practice he especially cherished his 14 years serving fellow veterans at the VA at Togus. His patients remember him as a healer, mentor, and friend who deeply impacted their lives. Even as health challenges arose in his later years, he remained dedicated to returning to his practice.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he remained a devoted New England fan. While Tim, in his youth, excelled as a pitcher in baseball, he also played basketball and tennis, later competing on the naval officers tennis teams while stationed in Cuba. Over the years he participated in various local sports groups for golf, tennis and bowling. One of his most cherished experiences was playing at the historic old courses of Gleneagles and St. Andrews in Scotland.
His love for the outdoors began, growing up alongside the Scarborough Marsh and the Nonesuch River. From clamming, lobstering, hunting and fishing as a young boy, Tim grew up with a deep understanding of the importance of conservation of our waterways and wetlands. After arriving in Bath, in the mid-’70s he actively supported many conservation groups. This all led him to be a passionate fisherman and bird hunter. Tim was happiest outdoors. Tim and Jane shared their love for being on the water. Fishing and boating for many years – they reluctantly let others man the helm and enjoyed cruising.
Tim cherished his large, extended family and always looked forward to gatherings, reunions, and outdoor adventures. His grandparents, Howard and Louise (Sears) Roberts of Randolph, played a significant role in shaping his love and passion for family, as well as his many interests in gardening, card playing, history, storytelling, humor, conservation and outdoor pursuits. Additionally, his beloved aunt, Phyllis (Gardner) Roberts Peabody, of Houlton, who always believed in and encouraged him in all of his endeavors.
In addition to his parents, Tim was predeceased by his sister, Louise Quinn, brother-in-law, Conrad Brooks; in-laws Percy and June (Brewster) Thomas; and nephew, Brian McGrath.
