Dominican Republic national gunned down in St Kitts

Police in St Kitts and Nevis are investigating the island’s latest homicide where a young man was shot and killed.  

The deceased has been identified as Crisbel Rivera, 18, a male national of the Dominican Republic, who resided at Carty Alley, Newtown. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds at John Street, Newtown.  

According to reports, on Wednesday night, Rivera was approached by an armed assailant who fired several shots in his direction. 

Rivera was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. 

An investigation into the incident is under way. 

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are also investigating an attempted homicide at Wade Street, Cayon, St Kitts.  

Reports state on Wednesday night, Devon Norford, 34, of Cayon was approached by an armed assailant who shot at him. Norford, who fled the scene in the direction of the Cayon Police Station, sought assistance for multiple gunshot wounds.  

He was taken to hospital and was warded in stable condition.  

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrence Drew, who is currently in the UAE, assured citizens that he has been in touch with the Commissioner of Police, the Commander of the military and the National Security Advisor to get an assessment of what is taking place and their strategy for the continued protection of citizens and national security. 

He stated: “I want to reassure the public that the national security of St Kitts and Nevis remains solidly intact, and these random occurrences are being dealt with.” 

The Ministry of National Security is carded to hold a media conference on Friday on the progress of law enforcement in St Kitts and Nevis for the first quarter of 2024.
