AHMEDABAD: Amid rapidly rising Covid-19 positive cases, the ambitious GU-DRDO 900 beds-with-oxygen hospital is set to begin its trial run on April 22-23, chief minister Vijay Rupani said.
If all goes as planned, the makeshift hospital is likely to be commissioned by April 25, sources said.
Health department sources said that the central government has allocated doctors and nurses staff from the paramilitary and armed forces for the hospital who will start arriving later this week.

Some 700-1,000 staff members are being recruited at the local level to enable the authorities to provide advance care to the Covid-positive patients who have developed a requirement for oxygen.
Sources said that a senior DRDO doctor is camping at the premises and work is on in full swing to put partitions in place for the hospital to be functional.
A Rapid Antigen Test booth will also be constructed at the hospital to check suspected patients who land in a state of emergency. A triage facility to categorize the patients as per their medical state of emergency is also being developed.
“As the hospital will have 150 ICU beds, ventilators are also under movement from different states,” an official said.“The hospital will be reserved for RT-PCR positive patients needing oxygen. Those who are suspected patients will be tested at the premises,” said doctors at VS Hospital which is the base of the DRDO hospital.
