Defense manufacturer Sikorsky in Stratford, Connecticut, will produce more presidential helicopters in 2022 under a recent contract with the U.S. Navy.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut join Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker to tour Sikorsky headquarters this week to discuss developments.

DeLauro credited Sikorsky’s Career Pathways program for securing job training and employment for young people in the defense industry. DeLauro is the chair of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee that controls federal spending. Defense manufacturing for the state is one of her priorities.

“And that’s what this place is, it’s all about national security, pride, workforce, development and a new pathway for young people to be engaged in this industry,” DeLauro said.

Blumenthal is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“Sikorsky is not only at the tip of the spear, it is at the cutting edge of technology and it is producing helicopters that can’t be seen, can’t be shot down, can’t be interpreted by our adversaries. That is what Sikorsky is doing to make us safer,” Blumenthal said.

Sikorsky said it expects a high retirement rate in the coming years and will use the program to fill positions with trained workers.
