The Helper American Legion baseball teamed opened up the 2019 summer campaign with a four-game road trip Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Burley, Idaho.

Competing against four teams from outside the state of Utah, Helper finished with a record of 3-1 in the four game outing. After opening the tournament with back-to-back shutout wins over Blackfoot and Minico, Helper suffered a 5-4 loss to Burley. The weekend came to an end with a 9-4 win over Jerome.

“Overall I was very happy with our effort. We did a lot of things well,” said manager Dakota Cisneros. “We made great plays behind our pitchers and played well all weekend, with the exception coming in the loss to Burley.”

With the four-game trek now in the books, Helper will shift its focus to the division opener against Roosevelt at home Wednesday evening in double-header action.

The two teams will square off beginning at 6:00 and again at 8:00 p.m.. Both games will take place at Ernie Gardner Field in Helper.

Following Wednesday’s double-header Helper will travel on the road to Pleasant Grove Saturday afternoon for two more games. Helper will continue to play each Wednesday and Saturday for the remainder of the season.

Thursday, June 6: Helper- 9, Blackfoot- 0, Final:

Cody Lowe delivered allowed just one hit in a complete game shutout from the mound to lead Helper past Blackfoot 9-0 Thursday afternoon in Burley, Idaho.

Carrying a one-hitter into the sixth inning, Lowe was dominant throughout the contest. Helping his own cause at the plate, he also launched a home run to help secure the win.

Offensively Helper provided plenty of run support as Zac Bradley ended 3-4 with three doubles and one RBI. Anthony Jones also delivered at the plate as he finished 2-3 with two singles.

Friday, June 7: Helper- 3, Minico- 0, Final:

Helper moved to 2-0 on the young season with another shutout victory, this time by a final score of 3-0 against Minico Friday afternoon.

Zac Bradley allowed just one hit and struck out five batters to record the win on the mound. The shutout was the second in as many games for Helper as Cody Lowe also pitched a one-hitter Thursday afternoon.

Locked in a scoreless tie in the fifth inning, Tyler Wright brought in the go-ahead run with a two-run RBI double. Helper finished the final two innings on a strong note, securing the victory.

Ty Anderson ended 2-4 with two singles and one run at the plate. Anthony Jones finished 1-2 with a single and a run.

Friday, June 7: Helper-4, Burley-5, Final:

Unable to ride the momentum built from two previous wins, the Helper American Legion baseball team suffered its first loss of the season with a 5-4 setback to Burley Friday evening.

Playing for the second time in the day, Helper fell behind in the opening frame and never managed to recover.

Nathan Richins worked the majority of the contest in a relief effort, making his first appearance in the second inning. Allowing just three hits, two runs and striking out six, the effort fell just short in the setback.

Rylan Hart ended 2-4 at the plate to lead Helper in the loss. JP Powell also delivered, going 1-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Saturday, June 8: Helper- 9, Jerome-4, Final:

An offensive explosion propelled Helper past Jerome 9-4 Saturday afternoon as the team responded from its first loss of the season to end the Idaho trip 3-1.

Kaleb Nelson earned the win on the mound, allowing just seven hits to go with six strikeouts. Nelson also delivered at the plate, finishing 1-3 with one RBI in the win.

Offensively Helper was dynamic throughout the contest. Rylan Hart went 3-4 at the plate, lacing three singles and scoring two runs. Ty Anderson finished 2-3 with a double, single and a walk. Anthony Jones also brought in two RBIs on a 1-3 performance.
