The Woodstock Navy Vets pulled even at two games in their first round series against the New Hamburg Firebirds.

Kyle Walker had the lone Woodstock goal and Keaghan Brett made 22 saves in net.

The Navy Vets took Game 4 with a 4-2 victory against the Firebirds on home ice.

Woodstock had goals from Trent Lamarche, Kyle Walker, Austin Sine and Peter Cascagnette. Keaghan Brett made 18 saves for the win in net.

Game 5 is tonight in New Hamburg. Game 6 is Friday in Woodstock at 7:45 p.m. and if necessary, Game 7 is Saturday night in New Hamburg.

TAVISTOCK SWEEPS INTO SECOND ROUND

The Tavistock Braves completed their sweep of the Delhi Travellers in the first round of the playoffs.

The Braves won decisively in Game 3 against the Delhi Travellers 10-0.

Drew Gerth had four goals with Bradley Smith adding two and Josh Schindler, Mathew Walsh and Josh Borys also scoring. Justin Labrie had three assists with Schindler, Ryan Donat and Mackinnon Hawkins also getting two assists each. Jensen Van Boekel stopped all 13 shots for the shutout.

Tavistock finished their four-game sweep with a 12-5 victory over Delhi Saturday night.

Josh Helgerman had three goals, while Jake Wiffen and Tanner Johnson each scored twice. Drew Gerth, Jack Becker, Mathew Walsh, Cole Corriveau and Mackinnon Hawkins also scored. Ryan Donat and Hawkins had three assists with Josh Schindler, Brody Oliver, Bradley Smith, Josh Borys and Corriveau also getting three assists.

The Braves will play the lowest seed that makes the second round and will start after next weekend.

NORWICH FACING ELIMINATION

The Paris Mounties took a 3-2 series lead over the Norwich Merchants in their first round series.

The Merchants pulled even in Game 4 of their series against the Paris Mounties with a 4-1 victory.

Simon Storoschuk scored three times and Blake Pow also scored while adding a pair of assists. Tyler Gubesch made 25 saves for the win.

Paris retook the series lead with a 4-2 win in Game 5. Blake Pow had both Norwich goals and Tyler Gubesch made 39 saves in net.

Game 6 is Friday in Norwich at 8 p.m. and if necessary, Game 7 is in Paris Saturday night.

THAMESFORD TAKES STRANGLEHOLD ON SERIES

The Thamesford Trojans put themselves on the brink of the second round with a trio of victories to start their first round series against the North Middlesex Stars.

The Trojans opened the series with a 7-4 win over North Middlesex.

Kolbe Doxtator had a hat trick with Lucas Ojero, Jared Caldarozzi, Tyler Arndt and Cody Brock also scoring. Mackenzie Chalmers had two assists and Lucas Bain made 32 saves for the win.

Thamesford took a 2-0 advantage with a 2-1 win over the Stars Saturday night. Dillon Hunter and Kolbe Doxtator scored and Lucas Bain made 28 saves for the win.

The Trojans wrapped up the weekend with a 8-4 win in Game 3 on the road.

Spencer Mills had two goals, while Jordan Winter, Tyler Arndt, Jared Caldarozzi, Ryan Tremblett, Luke Caldarozzi and Lucas Ojero also scored. Kurtis White and Kolbe Doxtator also added a pair of assists.

Game 4 is Tuesday in North Middlesex and if necessary, Game 5 returns to Thamesford Friday at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 6 is Saturday and Game 7 is Sunday with both in North Middlesex.

TILLSONBURG REMAINS IN SECOND

The Tillsonburg Hurricanes of the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League went 1-2 in their previous three games and still hold on to second place in the South Division.

The Hurricanes saw their 14-game winning streak snapped last week with a 8-6 loss to first place St. George.

Dmitri Selyutin had three goals with Ivan Vorobyov adding two goals and Kameron Wilson also scoring. Selyutin and Taylor Woolcott had three assists and Vorobyov and Mitch Randell also added two assists. Noah Acciaccaferri made 37 saves.

Tillsonburg fell 7-6 to the Windsor Aces Friday night. Mitch Randell and Ivan Vorobyov each had two goals with Taylor Woolcott and Alex Takacs also scoring. Louis Rabelle had three assists and Keagan Crawley had two.

Tillsonburg ended their weekend with an 8-6 win over Niagara-on-the-Lake. Dmitri Selyutin had four goals with Ivan Vorobyov adding two and Louis Rabelle and Kameron Wilson also scoring. Selyutin and Taylor Woolcott had three assists each and Rabelle and Vorobyov also had a pair of assists. Noah Acciaccaferri made 41 saves in the win.

The Hurricanes wrap up their regular season at home with a Friday game at 7:30 p.m. against the Kingsville Kings and against Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Kings.
