CCTC Foundation welcomes new board members

Manning City Councilwoman Sherry Welle has joined six others as new members of the Central Carolina Technical College Board of Trustees. Those joining Welle include Bruce Snipes of Bishopville; Catherine Cantey, Roy Fakoury and Brant Tomlinson, all of Camden; and Lefford Fate and Dr Michelle Logan-Owens, both of Sumter. Welle is a graduate of Central Carolina Technical College, the Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Institute and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She is the senior regional marketing consultant for Community Broadcasters and is mayor pro tem for Manning. Welle is active with Manning City Council and the Manning Rotary Club. She has previously served on the Municipal Finance Officers, Checks and Treasurer’s Association for the South Carolina Municipal Association, the ATAX Committee, the Cable TV Advising Committee and the Clarendon Chamber Festival Committee. Snipes graduated from USC Sumter and the University of South Carolina. He is the financial sales manager and vice president of First Citizens Bank in Bishopville. He is active with The Link, which is the Economic Development Board for Lee and Sumter Counties. Previously, Snipes served on the Lee County Development Alliance and the Santee Lynches Council of Governments Economic Review Board. Cantey is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Bankers School. She is vice president at AgFirst Farm Credit Bank in Columbia. Cantey currently serves on the Health Services District of Kershaw County and is on the board of Springdale Hall Club. She has previously volunteered her time with the Junior League of Columbia and KershawHealth Board of Visitors. Cantey is also involved with the United Way of Kershaw County and New Day on Mill Caring Hearts Ball. She is helping rural communities gain access to reliable internet service to support the growing needs for education, medicine and workforce. Cantey has experience with strategic planning with boards and leadership teams, leadership coaching and public speaking. Fakoury is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) and an Accredited Estate Planner (AEP®). He is the owner and managing principal at Camden Financial Properties. Fakoury currently serves as a Licensee Advisory Board member of the Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network; chairperson and board member of KershawHealth/LifePoint Health; board member of the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County; board member of the Quaker Cemetery Association; member and past vestry person at Grace Episcopal Church; member and past president of the Camden Rotary Club and member of the Halftime Roundtable. Previously, Fakoury has worked with the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, the Kershaw County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America, the Kiwanis Club of Camden and the Camden Jaycees. Tomlinson graduated from the University of South Carolina. He is the director of public policy at the Mullikin Law Firm in Camden. Tomlinson is on the board of directors at Grace Church Kindergarten and Global Eco Adventures. He is also active with the Camden Jaycees and the Kershaw County Accommodations Tax Advisory (ATAX) Committee. Fate is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Park College, Villanova University and the Community College of the Air Force. He is currently the support services director for the City of Sumter. Fate is actively involved with the Shaw Air Force Base (AFB) Chiefs Group, the Shaw Sumter Community Council and the Sumter Education Foundation. He is the education chair of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce and president of the Shaw Afterburners Toastmasters. Fate also serves as a speaker, trainer and coach for TEDx speakers. Logan-Owens is a graduate of USC Sumter, the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina. She is the chief operating officer at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. Logan-Owens is currently active with Wilson Hall, the South Carolina Hospital Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association of Healthcare Services Executives and the Liberty Fellowship program. She has also been a part of the Forum, the Sumter Junior Welfare League, Families of Highway Fatalities and was an honorary commander for the 20th Medical Group at Shaw AFB. The Central Carolina Technical College Foundation board of trustees is comprised of community leaders from the college’s service area of Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties. The mission of the foundation is to establish, grow and manage resources that serve as a catalyst to create educational opportunities and enhance academic excellence within the college’s service area. “On behalf of the Central Carolina Technical College Foundation Board, I would like to welcome each new member, leaders all, from our four county area,” board chair Dr. Scott Brown said. “We look forward to the addition of your guidance and insight as we lend support to those who wish to better educate themselves, for the benefit of themselves, their families and the communities that we all serve. Thank you for your commitment to this noble effort.” Established in 1977, the foundation provides support to the college to enhance its efforts to prepare students to enter the job market and achieve their professional goals. Over the 42 year history, the foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million in scholarships to more than 3,500 students.
