Ahead of his trip to Asian countries next month, US President Donald Trump has said that he may visit the demilitarised zone along the South Korea border with the North. Details of his trip are still being finalised.

“We’ll take a look at that. I didn’t hear in terms of provoking, but we will certainly,” Trump said when asked if he intended to go to demilitarised zone (DMZ) and if he is afraid of provoking North Korea by going to the DMZ.

Trump said next month he will be travelling to South Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam and may be Philippines.

“I look forward to all of them. We haven’t set the details, as of this moment,” he said.

Trump’s Asia travel from November 3 to 14 will underscore his commitment to longstanding American alliances and partnerships, and reaffirm its leadership in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.

“The President’s travel will underscore his commitment to longstanding US alliances and partnerships, and reaffirm US leadership in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Sanders said releasing an updated itinerary of the Asia travel next month.

This would-be Trump’s maiden trip to the region as the president of the US.

Trump will commence his visit to Asia beginning with Japan on November 5. Trump will meet American and Japanese service members, and participate in bilateral meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who will also host the President for a meeting with the families of Japanese citizens abducted by the North Korean regime, Sanders said.

During his visit to South Korea on November 7, Trump will participate in a bilateral meeting with President Moon Jae-in and visit American and South Korean service members.

He will speak at the National Assembly, where he will celebrate the enduring alliance and friendship between the United States and the Republic of Korea, and call on the international community to join together in maximizing pressure on North Korea.

“On November 8, President Trump will arrive in Beijing, China for a series of bilateral, commercial, and cultural events, including meetings with President Xi Jinping,” Sanders said, adding that Trump will then travel to Danang, Vietnam, on November 10.
