A teenage Indian cancer patient was allegedly gang raped by two men then raped by a third man she asked for help.

The unnamed 15-year-old, who is receiving treatment for blood cancer, told police she left home to visit a local restaurant where she met the first two men, one of whom was an acquaintance.

They took her to a deserted place in the Lucknow area where they held her hostage for six hours and took it in turns to rape her, Indian media reported.

She said they then dumped her by the side of the road and threatened to kill her if she said anything.

The girl said she then flagged down the third man, who was on a motorcycle, to ask him to take her home.

During the trip she told him what happened so he “took her to another deserted spot, raped her and escaped, leaving her at the spot”, a police officer said.

Additional superintendent of police for the area, Sarvesh Mishra, said other local residents in the small village on the outskirts of Lucknow in the northern Uttar Pradesh state had called police at about midnight when they saw the girl wandering, the Hindustan Times reported.

She was then taken to hospital where she underwent a medical examination.

Mr Misra told the Times of India that the first two men were currently on the run.

The passerby has been arrested, he said.
