Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 to host centennial celebration

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 62 (S.A.L.) will host a kickoff 100th Anniversary celebration on Friday, March 15 at the Post with entertainment by Johnny Hollins Hoomen from 8-12 p.m.

On March 23, 2019, Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary with a centennial dinner for members and guests. Members will receive a legion memento when they arrive. The evening will begin with a social hour/open bar and appetizers at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a short program, and big band music by the John Cross Swingtime Band. The cost is $35 per person, with a presale reduced rate of $30 per person by March 8. Tickets are available at the Post. Reservation deadline is March 15. Post 62 will be closed at 5 p.m. to facilitate this important event.

Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 was chartered in 1919 and is honored as a “centennial” Post. The 100th anniversary of The American Legion is not only an opportunity to look back on all our Post has achieved but it is also the perfect time to chart a course for the second century. New generations of veterans depend on the kind of vision shared and expressed by the World War I-era founders. That vision has proved timeless.
