HELENA – The American Legion Lewis and Clark Post #2 will be collecting donations over the weekend for the families affected by a devastating house fire on Raymond Street last week.

More than a dozen people lost their homes and their belongings to a structure fire on January 4.

Donations will be collected at the Lewis and Clark Post #2 at 3095 Villard Ave on Saturday January 12 and Sunday January 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The most needed items are toiletries and clothing for men, women and children of all sizes.

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and will be split amongst the families equally.

Public Relations Officer William Palumbo said he hopes the event shows the families that Helena is here to help.

“I know a few people here at the post have actually as recently as last year had house fires themselves. I’ve been there where I’ve had nothing,” said Palumbo, “So we all know what it feels like and we want them to understand that here in Helena at least we’re a community that cares.”

Bringing in used children clothes and toys is acceptable but American Legion are asking that the items be properly cleaned.

Palumbo’s own son donated his old toys to help the families.
