LITTLE FALLS-American Legion Riders Post 255 hosted a memorial dedication event Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls to honor the heroes of the Benghazi terror attack.

"The Heroes of Benghazi Memorial is to recognize and remember the four heroes who so bravely gave their lives in the terror attack at Benghazi Libya on Sept. 11 and 12, 2012," event organizers said in a news release.

The Brainerd American Legion Riders Post 255 raised funds for a memorial bench for the four Americans who perished doing their duty in service to their country. The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls was chosen for this memorial as a place where it will be maintained and available to the public 24 hours per day.

"This memorial will remind people when they see it, of the sacrifices made by these brave countrymen to protect others and keep our country free," the release stated. "It will help their families to know that their sacrifice is recognized and the American people have not forgotten. We know of no other memorial to the heroes of Benghazi on public property in the entire country."

The four who died in the Benghazi attacks and are honored at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery are U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens; U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith; and CIA contractors Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty, both retired Navy SEALs.
