Christian Atsu has underlined the importance of Newcastle United’s home encounter with Everton.

The Ghana international has stated in no uncertain terms that the Magpies can no longer afford to drop points at home after sinking closer to the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Atsu - who returned from a thigh injury during the 3-2 defeat to Leicester City - is hoping to take some of the positives out of the disappointing outcome on Saturday night into the next game with Everton.

Atsu told the Chronicle: “This is a must win game for us.

“I know all the players will give everything in that game.

“We assure our fans that we will fight back and make sure we make them happy in the next game.”

Atsu spent an unhappy spell with Everton back in the 2014/15 season when he made just five appearances before being sent back to Chelsea.

However, he is only looking to the future now after finally getting a chance in the Premier League on a regular basis.

Atsu said: “I just concentrate on giving everything I have for Newcastle United now.

“I am pleased to be back from injury and able to help the team do their very best.”
