GLEN LYON: In recognition of National POW/MIA day, Sept. 15, Newport Township American Legion Auxiliary Unit 539, is hosting a one-mile Walk of Warriors, 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, rain or shine. The $15 registration donation includes a t-shirt, hand flag and light lunch.
Step-off is 9 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church and will continue to West Main Street, Apple Street and Newport Street, to the American Legion where a brief POW/MIA ceremony will be held, followed by lunch.
Transportation back to the St. Nicholas parking lot will be available. Wheeled walkers, strollers and wheelchairs are permitted, however, no other motorized vehicles are allowed. call Lorrie, 570-736-7177, for further information and registration by Sept. 1.
Proceeds benefit the National League of POW/MIA families whose sole mission is to obtain the release of all POWs, repatriation of all remains and accounting of all MIAs who served during the Viet Nam War. From the latest list, Pennsylvania still has 90- service members listed as MIA from the war.
