American Legion Post 84 launches new Sons of the American Legion, Auxiliary posts

Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 is expanding the Legion Family in the Aurora area, providing individuals with military members in their family lineage to join and support veterans as members of the Sons of the American Legion or the American Legion Auxiliary Post 84.

The Sons of the American Legion will have its first organizational meeting for all interested parties at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8, and the auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 25. Both meetings will be at the Post 84 service office, 75 S. LaSalle St., Aurora.

"The newly formed Sons of the American Legion Post and the Auxiliary Post 84 are avenues where individuals can be involved in helping our veterans," states Post 84 Commander Mike Eckburg. "These posts are vital to ensuring that families are included in our service to our veterans."

Membership for the Sons of the American for Post 84 include males of all ages, and the American Legion Auxiliary for Post 84 includes females of all ages, whose parents or grandparents, alive or deceased, served in the U.S. military and were eligible for the American Legion membership.

"This is the first time in decades that the Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 can proudly be serving all aspects of the veteran community as a complete Legion family. I invite interested individuals, who want to serve their country by supporting the veterans in the Aurora area, to come to a meeting, get involved and make a difference in a veteran's life," continued Eckburg. "We just honored our Veterans who are no longer with us on Memorial Day; however, I encourage everyone to be active on every day of the year and joining the American Legion family is one way to do it."

Members of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion comprise the Legion family, which has a combined membership of nearly 4.2 million nationwide. The mission of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion is to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, current military service members, and their families, both at home and abroad.

For more information on how to join, individuals are encouraged to call (630) 474-5084 or email Mike Eckburg at Commander@Post84.com. Visit www.post84.com.

The Roosevelt Aurora American Legion Post 84 will have its monthly breakfast meeting at 8 a.m. Friday, June 9, at Colonial Cafe, 1961 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora. Membership is open to veterans who have served during a time of conflict as declared by Congress.

The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 was founded in 1919, and is one of the oldest posts in the state of Illinois and currently has about 300 members. The post name is in memory of Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, who was killed in World War I in aerial combat over France on Bastille Day, June 14, 1918.
